One Dead, Two Hospitalized After Drive-By Shootings In Harnett County
HARNETT COUNTY — A 16-year-old was killed and two others were injured in shootings Sunday afternoon in Harnett County.
Deputies were first called at 3:45 p.m. to Scooter Lane in Cameron, where they found 18-year-old Damon Bird suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office. Bird told deputies he had been walking nearby on McDuffie Road when a vehicle drove past and someone inside opened fire. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Just 13 minutes later, Sanford Police notified Harnett County 911 that officers had found two gunshot victims on Palm Drive in Sanford. One of the victims told police they had been shot in Harnett County.
A 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 20-year-old Mario Ramos, was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Investigators believe the two victims found in Sanford had been traveling on or near Scooter Lane when they were shot. The sheriff’s office said it cannot yet confirm additional details about what led to the gunfire.
