SMITHFIELD – One driver was transported to an area hospital following a Monday afternoon traffic accident on M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway in front of Smithfield Selma High School. A SSS student was a passenger in one vehicle but not injured.
The accident occurred just as SSS and nearby Neuse Charter School were dismissing for the day and many parents were trying to pick up their children.
Smithfield Police investigated the accident and, as much as possible, kept the heavy traffic flowing around the accident location.
That area is nuts around school time. Went through there the other afternoon and the traffic was backed up for Neuse Charter but one of their busses decided they didn’t need to wait and pulled to the front of the line trying to wedge in. They blocked both lanes.
I thought that was part of the SRO job was to help with traffic control. But, NOT at Meadow School ~ the car is sitting on the grass at the line up area and he’s no where in site. Even in the morning trying to drop off, it’s crazy!
