FOUR OAKS – A head-on collision seriously injured three people Friday afternoon. The accident was reported at the intersection of Black Creek Road and Packing Plant Road.
According to the State Highway Patrol, a white minivan was traveling on Packing Plant Road and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection. A white GMC SUV was traveling north on Black Creek Road and swerved to avoid the minivan but the vehicles still collided head-on. After the impact the minivan overturned on its side.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate two people severely trapped in the overturned minivan. Crews also had to extricate the driver from the SUV. There were no passengers in the SUV.
A LifeFlight helicopter landed at the scene to airlift one of the victims to WakeMed. Johnston County EMS rushed the other two victims to WakeMed.
The intersection was closed for nearly two hours.
The names of those involved has not been released.
