One person is dead following a shooting Monday afternoon in Johnston County.
Around 5:00pm, Princeton Police responded to a report of shots being fired in the 300 block of South Elm Street and found the victim lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Johnston County EMS paramedics.
A neighbor reported hearing gunshots and then walking outside her home to see the victim in the roadway. The woman said the neighborhood is normally very quiet.
Princeton Police, Pine Level Police and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
At least two bystanders shouted profanities at police as they investigated the fatal shooting.
The name of the victim was not immediately released. No information about a motive or possible suspect was released at the scene but Police Chief Tyrone Sutton said information would be released soon.
