One Person Found Dead In Mobile Home Fire

One person was found dead following a mobile home fire in Johnston County.

The fire was reported at 3:03pm Friday in the 14900 block of Buffalo Road just north of Archer Lodge.

Fire crews from Archer Lodge, Clayton and Corinth Holders found a doublewide mobile home fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters found a body in the burned out home.

Johnston County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

Johnston County Fire Marshal Adam Stanley said the blaze appears to have started in the living room area. Stanley said Monday the fire has been officially ruled as undetermined but all signs point to it being accidental.

Authorities said a disabled man in his 50’s lived in the home. The body was sent to the NC Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for an autopsy and identification.

This marks the second fatal house fire within a month in Johnston County. On Nov. 17th, a Four Oaks woman died in a mobile home fire on Oliver’s Grove Road.

A total of 5 deaths have been reported in house fires in Johnston County since 2015.
