SMITHFIELD – One person was injured in a fire Tuesday afternoon. A shed caught fire behind a home in the 2100 block of Michael Lane in South Smithfield.
An individual reportedly opened the door to the shed and was burned by the flames.
The Smithfield Fire Department, assisted by the Four Oaks Fire Department, responded and extinguished the flames. The victim was rushed by Johnston County EMS to the Burn Center at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for treatment.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Smithfield Police Department responded and provided traffic control.
