SELMA – Just before midnight, New Year’s Eve, a man lost his life on his own driveway, according to authorities.
The victim was turning off of King Road onto his driveway when the large ATV flipped over, pinning him underneath. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said speed and a failure to wear a helmet may have played a role in the tragic outcome of the rollover accident.
The victim’s name was not immediately released.
Antioch Fire, Johnston County EMS, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the 11:55pm accident, just off of NC Highway 39.
Just like the people who refused to wear a seatbelt when driving a vehicle – if you’re going to be on an ATV wear a helmet people! Common sense seems to be lacking around here……
Also don’t drink and drive – whether it be a car a truck an ATV, a boat or a jet ski or anything else for that matter even a horse or a lawnmower….NOT THAT THIS HAPPENED HERE – just a general PSA or reminder for those that may need it. We definately have a few people on the Cul-de-sac beside our road who get a bit tipsy and their whole family gets on their four wheelers and they come over on our road and go freaking crazy for hours. We have really big farm trucks/buses and tractors on our road and then at night we have the usual hot rods so it’s not the safest place for these people to be riding their four wheelers, especially when they’re drunk. I do not want to read about y’all on here – or worse.
Sorry this had to happen to his family around this time of year..just very sad…
It was his life. His choice. You don’t like to read about it. Don’t. It’s a choice.
Sorrynotsorry, what Leighlah wrote was nice and caring, you are a jerk!
Not to mention four wheelers are legally supposed to be on the road in the first place as per US code 20-171.19 i watched a joco sheriff ride right past several kids with no helmets on and he did nothing.
Reading your post, I assume that your children have nut allergies.
My heart goes out to him and his family. God bless you all.
My heart and prayers go out to this family on their loss
People are slack as well as law enforcement in regard to people driving ATVs on the road. You see it all over where there is no respect for the law.
