A Kenly area man was killed Tuesday evening in a head-on collision on Highway 42 east of Clayton near Thanksgiving Fire Department Road.
Troopers said Thomas Schmidt, 30, was killed when a westbound driver was passing another car and struck Schmidt’s vehicle. Both drivers were pinned in their vehicles.
The NC State Highway Patrol did not immediately release the name of the driver they said caused the collision, however, indicated that although seriously injured, he will face charges.
Highway 42 was shut down for about 2-1/2 hours following the 7:00pm crash.
The Thanksgiving Fire Department and Johnston EMS responded with Highway Patrol to the accident scene.
