Driver Killed In Overnight Crash Identified

CLAYTON — The State Highway Patrol has identified the driver killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Johnston County.
Troopers said Toluwalase Chidera Adams, 23, of Clayton, died after his vehicle ran off Pritchard Road near Grande Overlook Drive around 10:10 p.m.
According to investigators, Adams was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree stump, went airborne, hit a tree, and overturned. He was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said Adams was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor, but alcohol is not suspected.
The roadway was closed for about two hours while troopers investigated.
The State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
