CLAYTON – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close both directions of Interstate 40 at U.S. 70 for several nights so bridgework can be done safely. This work is necessary for the construction of N.C. 540.
Crews will close westbound and eastbound I-40 at U.S. 70 tonight (Monday) and Tuesday at 10 p.m., reopening each morning at 5.
Westbound traffic will detour at N.C. 42 East (Exit 312A) to U.S. 70 West back to I-40 West.
Eastbound traffic will exit at U.S. 70 East and follow the detour through the N.C. 540 turbine back to N.C. 540 then to I-40 East.
Drivers should slow down and proceed cautiously through this work zone during those two nights.
