DUNN – David Isiah Blue is accused of trying to steal cars from the former Motorcycle Madness building in downtown Dunn after the property owner told police he found him driving around inside, looking for an exit, Saturday afternoon.

Dunn police responded to a call for a break-in in progress at 112 S. Fayetteville Ave. at 1:01 p.m. The property owner flagged down Sgt. Zachary Jacobs as he arrived on scene.

The owner told police he came into the old shop and discovered a Black man driving his 1998 BMW around inside the building “in an attempt to steal the car.”

The owner pointed to a man seated in front of the Valero gas station, across the street, as the suspect.

Jacobs identified the suspect as David Isiah Blue, 31, of 909 E. Pope St., Dunn. Police detained Blue while an investigation was conducted. Detective Benjamin M. Green investigated the case and found that Blue had attempted to steal not just the BMW, but also three other vehicles inside the business.

Green charged Blue with one count of breaking into the business, four counts of attempted larceny of a vehicle and three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle.

Blue appeared before Harnett County Magistrate D. McLean who set his bond at $150,000 secured. Blue filed an affidavit of indigency with the court claiming no employment, income or monthly expenses in a request for a public defender.

Attorney Jesse Jones was appointed to represent him.

Blue also faces charges from another reported break-in on Nov. 10, 2024 involving a building next to the O’Reilly Auto Parts store on Cumberland Street. The court appointed attorney Michael McCord to represent Blue on those charges.

Blue has felony convictions, involving thefts and break-ins, dating back to 2010. He was released from prison on his last conviction Sept. 19, according to online offender records with the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.
