SMITHFIELD – Two suspects who reportedly stole a farm trailer near Smithfield were arrested a short time later. Around 5:00pm Friday, Feb. 9, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office was notified a trailer and approximately $1,500 in tools had just been stolen from a farm facility on Galilee Road.
The victim had followed the vehicle towing the stolen trailer from Galilee Road to US 301 but lost sight of the suspects.
Minutes later, a deputy sheriff spotted the vehicle on US 301 South near Thunder Road. The suspects reportedly claimed they had purchased the trailer a week earlier but were unable to provide a title or proof of sale.
The driver, Kalib Michael Strickland, 25, and a passenger, Michael Ray McKinney, age 28, both of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive were charged with felony larceny, breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of burglary tools.
Strickland was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and carrying a concealed weapon.
Strickland was held under an $80,000 bond and McKinney under a $75,000 bond in the Johnston County Detention Center.
Good catch! Trailers are very hard to find when this happens.
The suspects make a nice pair. Should go well in a cell. Have fun guys 🙂 Good job JCSO for getting more trash off the streets and drugs and guns as well.
