First-degree murder charges have been filed against two suspects in the shooting death of a Harnett County high school senior.
Eighteen year-old Iyania A. Rhone was asleep in her home shortly after midnight on the morning of March 23, 2020 when multiple shots were fired into the residence on Bunnlevel-Erwin Road near Erwin. Rhone was struck in the pelvic area and died from the fatal wound.
Today, Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats announced the arrest of 27 year-old Baron Lee Lyons of Apex. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of 18 year-old Jaylan Kashon Jackson of Angier.
Both men are charged with first-degree murder, felony conspiracy to commit murder and 10 counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.
A motive for the homicide has not been released.
Iyania was a senior at Harnett Central High School. Principal Catherine Jones said Iyania finished school in December 2019 as a mid-year graduate and would have received her diploma in June 2020.
