Passenger Killed In Crash On I-95

A 64 year-old man died in a two vehicle accident on Interstate 95 in Johnston County this morning (Wednesday).

The fatal accident was reported at 4:09AM in the northbound lanes near the 101 mile marker in Micro.

The Department of Transportation had shut down northbound lanes of I-95 for bridge demolition work at the Bizzell Grove Church Road overpass. A tractor trailer had stopped in the right travel lane for traffic congestion when it was hit from behind by a 1997 Toyota passenger car driven by Moyean Schroeder, 62, of Frederick, Maryland.  Mrs. Schroeder was transported to Wake Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. A passenger, Dennis Allan Schroeder, 64, of Frederick, Maryland died at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer, John Hughes, 46, of Maidens, Virginia was not injured. The tractor trailer, operated by R&L Transfer Inc., was hauling a double trailer load of hazardous material. The rear trailer sustained heavy damage but the hazardous material was not damaged.

The investigation into the fatal collision still remains under investigation by the NC Highway Patrol.  Photos by John Payne
