Passenger Killed In Head On Collision Near Benson

A 79 year-old woman died in a head on collision Monday afternoon outside of Benson. The crash was reported at 3:51pm on Highway 27 near Hodges Chapel Road in Harnett County.

The Highway Patrol said Jennifer Price Farmer, 42, of Wilson was traveling westbound on Highway 27 towards Coats when she crossed the double yellow center line in her 2011 Chevy and slammed head on into a 2017 Buick SUV traveling eastbound and operated by Ronald Ellis Jr., 41, of Sanford.  Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.

A passenger in Ellis’ vehicle, Margie Davis Turbeville of Cameron, NC, died at the scene.

Farmer was taken to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh for treatment of serious injuries.  Ellis was also taken to Wake Medical Center. His injuries were classified as non-life threatening.

The Highway Patrol said charges against Farmer are pending.  Troopers said “impairment” was a contributing factor.
