Patriotic Church Service Honors ‘Hometown Heroes’

Johnston County ‘Hometown Heroes’ Honored During 9/11 Remembrance Service

CLAYTON, N.C. – Music, historical videos, patriotic words and Biblical guidance filled Fellowship Baptist Church on Main Street in Clayton during a 9/11 remembrance service honoring Johnston County “Hometown Heroes” on Sunday morning, Sept. 13.

North Carolina State Rep. Donna White, Clayton Mayor Jody McLeod and Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell joined multiple county leaders, fire chiefs, police chiefs, police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, members of the North Carolina Department of Insurance and others who were recognized during the service.

Clayton High School’s ROTC Color Guard honored the nation by presenting the colors during the singing of the National Anthem.

With well over 300 people in attendance, in addition to members of the church’s Spanish Ministry, the church was nearly full.

Many attending wore patriotic clothing as they remembered the lives lost, courage shown and sacrifices made on Sept. 11, 2001, 25 years ago, while also honoring those who continue to serve the nation and the Johnston County community.
