Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Train

Four Oaks Police have identified a man struck and killed by a freight train Sunday.  It happened around 11:15 AM between Main and Baker Streets.

Police Chief Stephen Anderson identified the victim as 54 year-old Michael Mason of Smithfield.

Anderson said a police officer was outside the Four Oaks Town Hall talking with a citizen. The officer had his back towards the railroad track.  The person he was assisting was facing the tracks and witnessed the collision.  The officer immediately ran to the scene and called for EMS.  Mason was pronounced dead at the scene.
