The NC Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a car. The accident was reported at 8:43pm Thursday on Highway 96 south of Four Oaks near the Heath Road intersection.
Troopers said there were several independent witnesses to the collision. They reported the male victim was walking or standing in a lane of travel on Highway 96 South when the man was struck and fatally injured. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver was the only occupant in the car. They were transported to the hospital for precautionary measures but were not injured as a result of the collision.
The name of the pedestrian who was killed was not immediately released.
