The Highway Patrol has identified a pedestrian struck and killed by a car near McGee’s Crossroads.
Troopers said 26 year-old Victor Lamar Scott of Angier was fatally injured in the 4:40am crash Wednesday morning on Highway 50 North near Greenleaf Road.
Scott was walking southbound in northbound lane of Highway 50 when he was struck by a car driven by Connie Bailey Dienhart, 46, of Benson.
The Highway Patrol is investigating why Scott was in the roadway and if alcohol playing a factor. Dienhart will not face any charges, a spokesperson said Friday. Trooper M.A. Samosky was the investigating officer.
Scott’s death marks the 15th fatality on Johnston County roadways in 2016.
