A man walking home from work on a very dark Outlet Center Drive in Smithfield was struck by two vehicles and seriously injured. One vehicle stopped at the scene while the other sped away.
The accident was reported at 10:36pm Saturday to Smithfield Police.
Police said 21 year-old Freddie Soard of Ricks Road, Selma was walking along Outlet Center Drive when he was struck by a Hyundai driven by an 18 year-old Smithfield woman. Soard came to rest in the roadway. The teen stopped beside the roadway and called 911.
Seconds later, witnesses said a second vehicle ran over Soard’s legs but never stopped. Soard was transported to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Police said the driver of the first car that stopped at the scene will not face any charges.
