A Town of Smithfield truck struck and injured a pedestrian Wednesday. The accident was reported at 9:19am at the intersection of Market and Second Street in front of the Johnston County Courthouse.
Smithfield Police said the accident remains under investigation and charges are possible.
According to an accident report, Justin Allen Cameron, 27, of Princeton was operating a 2011 Ford pickup owned by the Town of Smithfield. Cameron was attempting to make a turn from Market Street onto Second Street when he struck a pedestrian walking across Second Street.
The pedestrian, Lyle Daugherty Trader, 66, of Stephenson Road, Angier was struck by the truck’s mirror. Trader was taken to Johnston Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said based on their initial investigation, the pedestrian does not appear to be at fault.
