For the second time in three years thieves have stolen from a Smithfield church.
Around 8:00PM Saturday, a member of Lanwood Chapel Freewill Baptist Church at 3056 Buffalo Road, arrived to make preparations for worship services Sunday morning. The member saw a suspicious gold color late-90’s Nissan Maxima parked near the side door. The car left when the member pulled in the parking lot.
Once inside, they churchgoer discovered some sound equipment had been unplugged and moved. A storage closet containing electronics had been ransacked and a digital Yamaha piano had been stolen. The piano was valued at $600.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is following up on leads in the break-in and theft.
In June 2016, someone broke into a storage shed at Lanwood Chapel removing a push mower valued at $200. No arrests were ever made.
