HARNETT COUNTY – An out-of-state motorist was killed in a single vehicle accident on Interstate 95 in Harnett County. The accident was reported at 10:03pm Sunday near Dunn.
The Highway Patrol said a 2016 Chevy pickup was traveling northbound when the driver, identified as Stephen Randall Norcross, age 57, of Detroit, Michigan, ran off the interstate to the left striking a construction barrier. The pickup then skidded off the interstate on the right shoulder, colliding with a ditch and tree.
Norcross was not wearing a seat belt. He died at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
Two dogs in a pet carrier in the back seat of the truck were turned over to Harnett County Animal Services.
Northbound lanes were closed for almost two hours, with one lane reopening around midnight. The second northbound lane was reopened just after 2:00am Monday.
