The NC Highway Patrol confirmed today (Thursday) they have located and seized a pickup truck involved in a deadly crash on Monday night.
Troopers said a white pickup truck had gone to the residence of 38 year-old Edgar Wayne Warren on Stevens Chapel Road east of Smithfield and had spun donuts in his yard. Warren and a friend got into a Ford Explorer and began chasing after the truck. While traveling on Stevens Chapel Road, Warren collided with the rear of the truck, causing the SUV to overturn off the rural roadway.
Warren was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He died at the scene. A passenger, Steven Daniel Smith, 32, of Four Oaks was not seriously injured.
Highway Patrol First Sgt. Derek Mobley told WTSB News the pickup truck that left the scene has been located and seized. Troopers are also following up on information about the possible driver, but no arrests have been made. Mobley said the Highway Patrol is working with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office on the investigation.
Funeral services for Edgar Warren will take place on Sunday, March 17th.
