Pills Seized During Traffic Stop

Selma Police have arrested a Smithfield woman on drug charges following a traffic stop on US 70 near Ricks Road.

Around 12:30am Thursday, an officer stopped a 2006 Mercury for an expired license plate.

The driver of the car was identified as Logan Ansley Parrish, 22, of Whitley Oaks Court, Smithfield. Police said they found oyxcodone and adderall pills in two different containers the vehicle.

During the traffic stop, Parrish’s mother arrived at the scene and reportedly claimed the pills did not belong to her daughter rather two other people.

Police released Parrish from the scene until they could consult with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office on possible charges. After consulting with an assistant DA, warrants were obtained.

Around 9:00pm Thursday, Parrish turned herself into Selma Police and was charged with felony trafficking in opium, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Police seized the pills, which weighed approximately 12 grams.

Bail for Parrish was set at $25,000.
