Three people traveling in a car on Interstate 40 this morning (Tuesday) are lucky to have escaped without serious injury after a piece of pipe fell from a tanker truck then pierced the windshield of their car.
The wreck happened on eastbound Interstate 40 between Garner and Highway 42. The occupants in the car said the pipe fell from the tanker, bounced on the interstate, and then directly into their windshield.
After the impact, the victims began following the tanker driver but said the truck driver would not pull over. The driver of the car stopped beside I-40 near Highway 42 and called 911 reporting the accident.
The victims were able to give the investigating trooper the name of the company on the side of the tanker. The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
The occupants in the car were showered with glass but did not suffer any serious injuries. They were reportedly headed from Raleigh to Selma when the accident occurred.
