Pit Bull Attacks Officer

A police officer was injured this morning (Tuesday) after being bitten by a pit bull. The dog has now been quarantined to determine if it may have rabies.

Officer J. Sitting with the Smithfield Police Department was investigating a missing person report. Around 12:10am he responded to an address on West Street in East Smithfield. The homeowner invited the officer inside. After stepping into the home, the homeowner’s pit bull bit the officer in the arm.

The officer’s injuries were minor.  No charges have been filed against the homeowner.  Police and animal control are still investigating the incident.
