SAMPSON COUNTY – An early morning house fire on Wednesday displaced a family of five in the Plain View community after the family dog awakened its humans with excited barking.

Firefighters from the Plain View Volunteer Fire Department along with multiple Sampson County units, Dunn Emergency Services and Godwin-Falcon Fire Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of Union Grove Church Road around 3:30 a.m. for the fire.

The first arriving units located a manufactured home heavily involved with fire and flames emanating from several areas of the home.

While firefighters were quick to knock down most of the flames, the fire destroyed much of the structure leading to a lengthy salvage and overhaul process before incident command could call the blaze completely extinguished.

The suspected cause of the blaze remains under investigation by fire officials.

The American Red Cross assisted the family.
