SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Town Council has approved a request from a developer to build a new hotel. Wintergreen Hospitality received approved to located a Home2 Suites By Hilton hotel on a 2.2 acre tract on Town Centre Place off E. Market Street, adjacent to Embassy Suites.
The council had to approve a variance to their commercial building height limitation. The hotel will be approximately 70 foot tall. The Smithfield Fire Marshal reviewed the application and had no concerns.
Other than the height variation, officials said the hotel conforms with all other Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) standards. A date for completion of the new hotel was not announced.
