SMITHFIELD – A clerk at the ABC Store on S. Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield was assaulted. Smithfield Police said it happened on June 28 around 3:36pm.
A woman reportedly entered the liquor store and became upset. The woman used her fist to strike a female clerk in the chest. The victim received a red mark from the assault but was not injured.
The suspect, identified as Niya Renee Cook, age 24, of Oxon Hill, Maryland was located June 29 at a motel on N. Equity Drive and taken into custody. Cook was charged with simple assault.
She was released on a $500 bond pending an August 20 court appearance.
I’m sure the clerk wasn’t running off at the mouth, never??? Some in there wear their red vest like they a badge of entitlement!

Some of them that work there are very rude and disrespectful! I would never hit someone but there is actually someone else that will definitely do it ! Now maybe they will watch what they say to people the next time ! Respect goes both way !
Personally, I have never witnessed the fine folks in the ABC store being rude to anyone. In fact, I have never witnessed any of them being anything but nice and cordial. Maybe, just maybe, it was the “yank” that was running off at the mouth?! Way more likely!!
Adults enter ABC smile and present your ID with out having your lips hitting the floor and acting like a lunatic.
My only problem is the accused was from Maryland and all she got was a $500 bond probly a unsecured bond so she probably will never see the inside of the court room.

Yup, BUT she is from around here and does visit regularly so IM sure that attitude will get her into trouble around here again. Its my understanding , she was impaired to some point and then didn’t want to present her ID to the clerks. She flipped out. Clerks have only ever been fun and nice in the ABC there in Smithfield. MY favorite one to go to in JoCo. Fun atmosphere on the weekends and always willing to help me and my spouse out.
