Police Conduct Checkpoint Seeking Clues In Unsolved Fatal Hit And Run

CLAYTON – Clayton Police patrol officers and detectives conducted an information checkpoint Sunday morning on Highway 70 Business West at Medical Park Place near the scene of a fatal hit and run crash that happened there two weeks earlier.

Police Chief Greg Tart said 400 informational flyers were distributed to motorists traveling through the area in an attempt to gather more information about the hit and run vehicle. Police are trying to located a white 2007-2012 GMC Acadia believed to be involved.

On October 3rd around 6:20am, investigators said a red 2003 Chevy Silverado pickup stopped partially in the right lane of Highway 70 West and two people exited the truck on the left side. Both individuals and the pickup were struck by the Acadia.

Police are searching for a white 2007-2012 GMC Acadia wanted for a fatal hit and run accident on October 3, 2021 on Highway 70 West near Medical Park Place.

Edgardo Antonio Medina, 32, of Raleigh, was dragged several feet by the Acadia as it fled. He died at the scene. The second victim, Francisco Gil Gervacio, 42, of Raleigh, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Acadia should have damage to the front end or side area.
