The Smithfield Police Department will be buying three new police cars.
The Town Council has approved a request to spend $71,400 to purchase three 2017 Dodge Charger Police Pursuit vehicles from Deacon Jones of Smithfield. Deacon Jones submitted a bid of $23,800 for each vehicle, lower than a bid from Ilderton Dodge of High Point at $23,950.
The police department has budgeted $87,000 to purchase and equip the vehicles with radios, computers and blue lights in the current 2016-17 fiscal year budget.
