Smithfield Police Chief Keith Powell

The Smithfield Police Department has received approval to purchase six new patrol cruisers.

Police Chief Keith Powell received approval from the Smithfield Town Council this month to buy six 2018 Dodge Charger patrol cars.  Performance Chevrolet was the lower bidder for the patrol cars at $21,939 each.

The police department had originally requested 7 patrol cars in their 2017-18 fiscal year budget.

The council also approved the purchase of a 2018 Ram pickup truck for the police department to be used by the animal control officer.  Performance Chevrolet was the low bidder at $19,270 for the truck.
