Smithfield Police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a teenager.
The incident occurred Friday but wasn’t reported to police untilSaturday.
Police said the victim was treated and released at Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield.
Captain R. Sheppard said the suspect was known to the victim and the alleged incident was not random.
The case has been assigned to a detective.
