Smithfield Police said a reported kidnapping Friday night on Outlet Center Drive was unfounded.
Around 8:43pm, officers were dispatched to a potential kidnapping in the area of Firehouse Subs. According to a 911 caller, a woman was forced into the trunk of a car and the driver quickly left the area.
Police said the car and the occupants were later located in Fayetteville and officers determined no criminal conduct occurred.
The female willfully got into the trunk of the vehicle. Police said the female was not injured but did receive medical care in Fayetteville.
