Police say a mother used her 14 year-old daughter as a “look out” while she shoplifted merchandise.
Officers responded to Wal-Mart on North Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield Monday night after a loss prevention officer for the business reportedly saw 31 year-old Leanna Maretta Becerra-Llams of Smithfield conceal merchandise valued at $89.50.
Police allege Becerra-Llams attempted to use her 14 year-old daughter to watch to make sure other people did not see the alleged shoplifting. Police said the mother and daughter were not successful.
The items were returned to Wal-Mart. The mother was charge with larceny and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. She was released from custody pending a May 9th court appearance.
