Smithfield Police need your help identifying a man wanted for allegedly targeting multiple businesses in the Smithfield area.
The suspect has been passing counterfeit $20 and $100 bills at local stores.
The latest incident occurred around 2:30pm Tuesday at Carroll Pharmacy on S. Brightleaf Boulevard.
The suspect made a small purchase and paid with the item with a fake $100 bill. An alert employee suspected the bill was counterfeit and declined to take the bill. The suspect left in a black BMW X5 SUV with tinted windows and the numbers scratched off the 30-day license plate driven by a second unknown black male suspect. The vehicle was last seen traveling on US301 South towards Four Oaks.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two incidents on Tuesday where counterfeit $100 bills were passed at Lowes Foods on Highway 42 West at Highway 50. Both suspects purchased inexpensive items and presented fake $100 bills for payment. Similar incidents have happened at other Lowes Foods in the area.
