No criminal charges will be filed following an investigation in an alleged sexual assault involving a juvenile at a local public school.
On April 15th, Smithfield Police were called to South Smithfield Elementary School after the parents of a 7 year-old child reported their son was inappropriately touched.
Police said at the time the suspect in the case was another juvenile at the school.
On Friday, interim police chief Keith Powell said following a three month investigation by a detective the case has been closed with no charges being filed. Officials declined to release any additional details as to the reason because the case involved minors.
Powell said the Johnston County school system may be handling the incident with disciplinary action. WTSB News reached out to school officials for a comment but no one responded before our news deadline.
