Police Officer Cited In Crash That Injures Two People

The NC Highway Patrol has cited a Clayton police officer for causing a two car crash that injured two people.  The accident happened on May 19th on Highway 210 about two miles south of Angier in Harnett County.

Officer Victoria Lee was operating a marked 2012 Dodge Charger that rear-ended a 2012 Buick passenger car that had stopped for traffic on Highway 210 at Tippet Road.  The driver of the Buick, James Alford of Spring Lake, and a female passenger sustained minor injuries according to the accident report.  They did not require transport to the hospital. Officer Lee was not injured.

According to a collision report filed by Highway Patrol Sgt. R.E. Mellott, Officer Lee was traveling at 25mph when she struck the Buick which was stationary.  Officer Lee was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Damage to the Clayton police car was estimated at $7,000. Damage to the Buick was placed at $3,000.
