Police Searching For Selma Shooting Suspect

SELMA – A Selma man was critically injured by gunfire. Around 9:30pm Thursday, Police Chief W.M. Thomas said officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 300 block of E. Lizzie Street.

Investigators said Erving Francis Jr., age 29, was at 305 E. Lizzie Street when he was shot in the leg. First responders found the victim in the front yard at 309 E. Lizzie Street. Francis was rushed to WakeMed. At last report he was in critical condition.

Chief Thomas said the shooting appears to be domestic related.

Warrants have been obtained for the arrest of JaQuan Avery-Kennedy, age 29, of Camel Street, Clayton. Once located, Avery-Kennedy will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Selma Police believe Avery-Kennedy is still in the Johnston County area. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Selma Police at 919-965-8189 or dial 911.

In November 2018, Avery-Kennedy and another man were arrested by Clayton Police for allegedly shooting a 19 year-old while he sat on the porch of a home on N. Smith Street.
