Police Seek Suspect In Assault That Sent Two To Hospital

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – An early morning assault in Smithfield left two people hospitalized and prompted police to seek charges against a suspect who fled the scene.

The incident happened around 3:40 a.m. Saturday, March 21 in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, where officers say a man and woman were attacked with a glass bottle.

According to the Smithfield Police Department, the victims—a 64-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman—both suffered lacerations. The man’s injuries were described as serious, while the woman’s injuries were considered minor. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the suspect left the area before officers arrived. Investigators later obtained warrants for the individual’s arrest, though the suspect’s name has not yet been released.

Police said the assault was not random and indicated the individuals involved were known to one another.
