Police: Shots Fired Into Occupied Vehicle

SMITHFIELD – Police detectives are investigating a shooting outside an apartment complex. Officers were dispatched to Kay Drive around 6:32pm Tuesday, Aug. 6 after gunshots were reportedly fired into a car.

According to Smithfield Police, two women were involved in an altercation minutes earlier on Brogden Road, just outside the city limits. Following the altercation, a male followed the two women from an undisclosed address on Brogden Road to the apartment complex on Kay Drive.

As the male driver approached an apartment in his vehicle, an unknown person emerged from the apartment and opened fire on the vehicle.

The vehicle was struck by the gunfire but the individual was not injured. He fled from the area before police arrived.

  1. I said the same thing! It’s ridiculous and they have got to do something about that area and quick! We have a family member that lives there and there’s way too much going on there! The shooting that happened not long ago that killed the guy was literally a few doors away. We don’t like to go visit just because it’s so dangerous out there. And those children that are there, it sickens me to know that they are all in danger everyday out there. Every time we’ve passed by, there’s so many innocent children outside playing, riding bikes, etc… and now they are being subjected to that mess. It’s just sad. The management at that apartment complex is the most unorganized and they have no clue how to manage anything and it shows! The police have placed a monitoring system out there and it’s still a problem to be in that area! SMH
