Police: Speed A Factor In Fatal Motorcycle Crash

SMITHFIELD – An accident report released today (Monday) has revealed new information about a fatal motorcycle accident Tuesday, April 25 on Barbour Road, near Laurelwood Drive, in West Smithfield. Brandon Alan McLamb, age 35, of Barbour Road, Smithfield died in the 4:52pm collision with an ambulance.

According to the accident report, McLamb was traveling eastbound on Barbour Road, operating a 2005 Honda motorcycle, when he entered a curve without reducing speed and while traveling in a careless manner. McLamb attempted to brake but was unable to. He lost control and crossed the centerline into the path of a MedEx medical transport ambulance traveling westbound. The vehicles collided head-on and McLamb was ejected.

EMS personnel on the transport ambulance immediately rendered medical aid, however McLamb was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders.

According to the report, witnesses told police McLamb was traveling at a “high rate of speed (and) passing cars on a double yellow line moments before the collision.”

There were four people in the ambulance, the driver and three passengers. None reported any injuries, according to the report.

Smithfield Police investigating the crash, with the assistance of the State Highway Patrol. No charges were filed.

  1. Senseless and preventable death. Too many speeding in that area. Too often you hear motorcycles and cars flying by in a 35 mph zone. If you want to speed, do it at the drag strip. We need a Hwy Patrol to be staked out in that area, like one did a while back. Just to keep everyone in check.
