Police: SSS Student Pulls Knife On 5 Year-Old Child

A student from Smithfield Selma High School has been charged with pulling a knife on a 5 year-old child and threatening the youngster.

WTSB News has learned the incident happened after school on Wednesday.

Lawrence Tristan Englehart, 17, a student at Smithfield-Selma High, was at his home on Hancock Street in Smithfield when he allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and threatened a 5 year-old neighbor in the front yard.

Police Chief Keith Powell said the child was riding his bike when Englehart pulled out the knife and reportedly threatened to cut the tire on his bicycle.

An officer responded to the scene and located Englehart and seized a pocket knife allegedly found in his possession.  He was cited for assault with a deadly weapon and released into the custody of a parent or guardian until a Nov. 28th court appearance.

The 5 year-old was not physically harmed.

Johnston County School officials confirmed Englehart is a student at SSS but declined to comment on the off campus incident.
