SMITHFIELD – A short chase Sunday afternoon led to the arrest of the driver and his car being seized under the NC Run and Done Law.
Around 2:00pm, a Smithfield policeman began pursuing the driver of a 2010 Nissan Sentra after they reportedly failed to stop on Market Street for a speeding violation. The driver turned onto North Fourth Street and accelerated. Due to the unsafe speed, the officer terminated the chase.
Moments later, a second officer on North Brightleaf Boulevard spotted the vehicle and briefly pursued the vehicle on North 12th Street until the driver jumped and ran on foot.
The driver, identified as Robert Leon Turner, 39, of Fayetteville was arrested a short distance away.
Turner was charged with fleeing to elude and a red light violation. He was given a $10,000 secured bond. Police said additional charges have not been ruled out.
Wow, they took his car. Not a big loss. Hey judge, you going to let this on go free also?
I’m curious to why this isn’t being done every time someone runs?
