Pounds Completes Coast Guard Training

Matthew Pounds of Clayton excelled in the graduating class of the United States Coast Guard boot camp in Cape May, NJ on Friday, January 5th.

KILO 195 graduated 100 cadets with Pounds receiving the John W Campbell Physical Fitness Award. This award which has been presented since 1996, was named after Campbell, a Coast Guard hero of the Second World War who participated in the Normandy Invasion of Europe.

Matthew Pounds is the son of Clayton police officer Brian Pounds and Dana Barbour. Dana is the wife of Johnston County 911 Director Jason Barbour.

Matthew will be stationed in Juneau, Alaska until he attends additional training in Georgetown, VA later in the year.
