Johnston County Schools have released preliminary end of year state testing results from the 2016-17 school year. This marks the fifth year under the state’s READY accountability model, which measures how well schools are doing to ensure students are career and college ready when they complete high school.
Under North Carolina’s READY Accountability Standards, all eligible students enrolled in public school in grades 3 through 8 participate in the Reading and Math End of Grade (EOG) Test. Students in grades 5 through 8 participate in the Science End of Grade Test. High school students enrolled in Math I, English II or Biology are administered an end-of-course assessment.
In unofficial and preliminary data from June, proficiency for Reading, Math and Science EOG (Grades 3-8) results were relatively the same as date from 2015-16 in Johnston County.
On average, over half of Johnston County school students in grades 3-8 met or exceeded their projected growth percentile in Reading and Math.
High School Math I, English II and Biology are showing positive gains compared to 2016.
School grades are assigned by the state on a 15-point scale and are based on a combination of the school’s achievement score and the students’ academic growth.
The state board of education will approve the test scores at theirSeptember 9th meeting at which time they will be released to the public.
