Buies Creek – Presbyterian rallied for two in the top of the ninth to edge Campbell 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium, evening its Big South series.
With two on and two out in the final frame, Brett Auckland singled in the go-ahead run for PC (24-22, 10-10 Big South). Jacob Midkiff followed with another RBI base hit, making it 4-2 Blue Hose.
Auckland and Midkiff both went 2-for-4 with a RBI for the Blue Hose.
Campbell fell to 23-22 overall and 10-7 in Big South play with the loss, ending a streak of 11 straight wins over Presbyterian.
Aaron Lesiak (3-3) earned the win in relief, working 1 2/3 innings, striking out one.
PC starter Tanner Chock pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Cole Norwood bridged the gap, going 1/3 of an inning with a hit and a walk.
Grant Yost (6-3) took the loss despite his fifth consecutive complete game, allowing four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and a walk.
The Blue Hose led 2-0 after five with Weston Jackson’s first inning homer and a Cletis Avery RBI double in the fifth.
Campbell put a run on the board in the sixth when Jimmy Monaghan scored on a wild pitch. The Camels tied it up an inning later on Kyle Prats’ RBI single to right-center, scoring Ben Calvano, who led off the inning with a walk.
Prats went 2-for-5 on the day, while Matt Parrish was 1-for-2, walking twice.
Campbell took game one of the series Friday night 1-0 behind Nick Thayer’s complete game shutout. Game three of the set is scheduled for Sunday, May 8, at 2 p.m.
Campbell will head to Elon next Tuesday, May 10, before hosting High Point in its home finale, May 13-15.
