Prominent Businessman Shot Inside Home

Johnston County businessman William Frank Lee, shown in this file photo at a NC State Fair tobacco auction, was found shot inside his Four Oaks area home early Sunday. Lee had been assaulted and shot in the foot. His injuries were not life threatening. He was still hospitalized Monday at Wake Med in Raleigh. No arrests have been made.

Prominent Johnston County businessman William Frank Lee remained hospitalized on Monday one day after being shot inside his home.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to Mr. Lee’s home on Peach Orchard Road outside of Four Oaks around 1:46am Sunday.

Lee reported an altercation occurred inside his home during which he was assaulted and shot in the foot.  Lee told deputies he was alone at his home prior to the incident occurring.

Authorities said Mr. Lee sustained non-life threatening injuries. He is being treated at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

On Monday, authorities said the investigation into the shooting was still in its early stages and additional information would be released as it becomes available.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made in the case.

Lee is a prominent businessman, landowner and agriculture official. He operates Central Marketing on Wal-Pat Road in Smithfield.  In 2016, he sued Universal Corporation and Universal Leaf North America claiming the Virginia-based company stole and used his ideas and trade secrets for processing sweet potatoes for sale.
