A public hearing will be held on August 1st on a proposed tavern in Clayton. David Schearer has applied for a special use permit to open a 32 seat, 1,400 square foot tavern in a historic house at 115 East First Street. First Street Tavern would be located behind Four Oaks Bank on Main Street and adjacent to Doggie Do’z Pet Grooming Parlor.
Schearer plans to model First Street Tavern as a self-serve operation with no wait staff where customers purchase wine or beer and the cashier provides a drinking glass. Some food would be available with the proposed menu featuring dips, dessert trays and flatbread.
During a meeting Monday night, members of the Clayton Town Council had questions about an arrangement Schearer reportedly has with the adjacent bank to share a handicapped parking space.
The concerns will be addressed during the August 1st council meeting.
